Skincare Haul: Clearasil Acne Treatment Cream Sulfur Resorcinol

Clearasil Acne Treatment Cream Sulfur Resorcinol

I have posted a review on this exact product as one of my recent skincare empties.  This is the second bottle that I have purchase, it definitely last a long time because a little goes a long way, so it definitely lasted me more than 4 months.  I am not as repelled by the smell compared to when I started using it.  Give sulfur a try if you have acne-prone skin

Skincare Review Empties: Clearasil Acne Treatment Cream Sulfur Resorcinol

Clearasil Acne Treatment Cream Sulfur Resorcinol

This is one of the my many topical treatment that I have for acne.  I have tried salicylic acid, benzyl peroxide, sulfur, and tea tree oil, you name it I have tried or if not at least heard of it.  I think sulfur is a good topical treatment to have, I have this and a sulfur mask that I both like.

If you don't know how does sulfur help with acne then I'll try my best to explain: sulfur allows blocked pores to become unblock.  So it's more helpful to use sulfur on already formed acne, at least it will make the pimple form faster or dry it out so it doesn't become too big.  The smell of sulfur is definitely pretty bad, it smells like rotten eggs, but after using it about half way, I actually don't notice the smell anymore.

After using this up, I already stoked up another one, so you know how much I like using this acne cream.  If you have acne and you have tried salicylic acid and bp and it doesn't work, then I definitely suggests sulfur.

Overall Review: 4.5/5, I wish I didn't have too rate this product so high then it means that I don't have such experience in using topical treatment, if you know what I mean.  What I really wish is that I couldn't have acne problem to care about what topical treatment is effective, but we don't live in a perfect world, I'll continue to get acne and I will continue to use this product.

Skincare: My Hormonal Acne Battle

My Hormonal Acne Battle

Here is a bit of background about my skin and my battles with acne in general:  so I didn't always have problem with acne, in most of my high school or adolescence I probably never had to deal with acne, a pimple would probably occur once every 3 months (it was definitely manageable and hardly even noticed as a problem).  So I think my acne nightmare started after my 20s.

I think acne started most on my forehead, at that time I still had bangs, maybe it was hygiene issues.  After getting rid of my bangs and with a bit of acne topical treatment, my forehead pimples are gone.  Now that I'm over 25, my battle with acne has moved to my lower mouth / chin area from hormonal imbalance.

I know it's hormonal acne because it always occur at around the same place and related to my period.  I have tried many topical treatment, I think they can't prevent hormonal acne.  I tried to use a sulfur mask just before I think my hormonal acne will flare up, it may or may not help, but what can I do.

It's a constant battle with acne, even after growing out of your teenage years.

Skincare Review Empties: Neutrogena Rapid Tone Repair Moisturizer SPF 30

Neutrogena Rapid Tone Repair Moisturizer SPF 30

This moisturizer is the version with accelerated retinol but without vitamin C.  This is a bottle that I have purchase from last year 2013, it lasted quite a while but mainly because I was on and off using it.  For a while I thought anything with SPF was causing acnes to break out on my chin/lower mouth area, but I found out that had to do with my hormonal acne and no moisturizer was to blame for it.

So I started using it again after taking a break from it, it's a decent moisturizer.  I brought mainly because I needed a SPF day moisturizer and I saw the Retinol, so I was eager to try.  Later when the impulsive buying motive was over, I realized that isn't Retinol supposed to be applied with restrictions on amount of sun exposure, so the idea of retinol in day moisturizer with SPF is contradicting.  It almost feel like I should wear more sun screens when there's Retinol.

The bottle does not have a lot products for the price.  I think it was almost $25 Canadian when I brought it.  It's obviously a lot cheaper than high-end skincare brand, but as a drug store brand, this is definitely not cheap.

The pump has locking, but every time I used it there's always a dried up piece from the last time you pump it, which is very annoying.  The consistency of the products is quite good, it's easily spreadable, and there's no white cast or leftover bits unlike over SPF moisturizer (Cetaphil SPF 30 oil control moisturizer has white bits that never spread, so it's comparably better).

Overall Review: 3.5/5, not likely I would repurchase but its a good product, I would recommend to people looking for SPF day cream that is reasonably priced.

Skincare Haul: Dermal Aloe Vera Gel 95%

Dermal Aloe Vera Gel 95%

Dermal is an international Korean skincare brand, I think you might have seen this brand's sheet masks before.  For a while, I even saw Dermal masks being sold at Walmart and if you goto H-mart which is Korean supermarket, you'll definitely see them.

Dermal have a lot of dupe or "knock-off" products to the really famous but also more expensive Korean skin care products.  This aloe Vera gel is the dupe for Natural Republic's Aloe Vera gel, I think that one might be 97% pure aloe Vera.

There are other dupes in Dermal skincare line, if you know Korean skincare then you must know Tonymoly's Intense Snail Hydration Gel Mask.  It's the one where there's two parts of the mask, one that cover from forehead to nose and the other cover from nose to chin.  Anyways, there is dupe of the mask from Dermal, and it's way cheaper (definitely 50% saving or more).

Back to the Aloe Vera Gel, 95% vs 97% pure aloe is just numbers to me, so I decided to try it immediately after I saw it in a Japanese drug store in Vancouver Downtown.  Since we are talking about pureness of aloe Vera gel, I did used to almost two bottle of Fruit of the Earth (FOTE) 100% aloe Vera gel.  You can get that from any Walmart store.  It's actually funny, before I brought this Dermal aloe Vera gel, I was actually using using FOTE as a mask, it worked okay not as good as Dermal.

So this is how I used the mask, I apply a thick layer all over my face, wait 20-30 mins and then take most of the gel off with a spatula and wash off remaining.  Note the mask will probably never dry if you apply a thick layer, if it's just a thin layer, then it will dry up as a film on your face.  A thick gel mask is supposedly more hydrating than a sheet mask, you should not wear a sheet mask for more than 30 mins because the sheet will absorb hydration from your skin when it's dried up.

I'll probably do another review on this gel mask after I used up the whole bottle, but so far so good.

Skincare Review: Naruko Raw Job's Tear Supercritical CO2 Brightening Mask

Naruko Raw Job's Tear Supercritical CO2 Brightening Mask

This mask it's a well known brand from Taiwan.  It was a gift from someone who are visiting from Taiwan.  I think this is a reasonably prized in Taiwan because of sales or what not, but if you were to buy this mask pack in North America, I can tell you it's definitely overpriced.  The pack is of 10 masks, I think it's around $25-29 Canadian in my local T&T supermarket, but when in Taiwan it's only around 10-15, even cheaper when on sale.  So you know why I'm not rushing to buy it in Canada.

The consistency of the mask this very thin and it's easily tears me, not a good thing when you are trying to apply it to your face. I think this one of the thinnest mask that is from the cheaper mask brands. I did tried one of Dr Wu mask, which was $3 for one mask and it was super thin, not even noticeable when you have it on your face.

There is abundance on essence in this mask, but maybe because the mask is too thin, it cannot absorb alot of essences.  Nevertheless, the mask is very hydrating.

I have usd up Naruko's Raw Job's Tear Night Gelly of the same series, I did like the night gelly.  I think I was expecting a bit too much from this mask or my expectations were high because I expect that it to be great and not just good.

Overall Review: 3.5/5, good hydration, not a visibly difference in brightness.  I would consider repurchasing it if it was cheaper.

Skincare Review: My Beauty Diary Pearl Powder Mask

My Beauty Diary Pearl Powder Mask

I brought this mask in the pack of 10 and I have almost used it all up, it's definitely one of the well known masks from My Beauty Diary.  It's actually one of the top selling mask.  Pearl powder is known for its whitening effect.  This mask is also very hydrating.  The scent of the mask is a bit of floral scent, but not too strong.

I have also brought and used up the black pearl mask, in comparison to this mask, I think the two are very similar.  I think if you just buy one or the other is fine, there's no need to have both.

Overall Review: 4.5/5, definitely a repurchase for me.  Like I said, this mask or the Black Pearl mask are both repurchasable.  I think it's good to have some whitening mask plus these are very hydrating, so that's two birds with one stone.

Skincare Review: Baléa deep cleansing face mask with dead sea salts and seaweed

Baléa deep cleansing face mask with dead sea salts and seaweed

This mask tingles a bit when you first put it on, but after a minute that will disappear.  This is more like a clay mask, it won't dry up as hard as the other clay masks that I have tried before, you can even say that it's a hydrating clay mask.

The scent has a citrus/orange smell, quite nice.  There is enough material in the pack for 3-4 uses for your entire face.

Overall Review: 3.5/5, I'm afraid it's the tingling sensation that puts me off, I think it may contain chemicals ingredients that is not suitable for frequent usage.

Skincare Review: My Beauty Diary Cooling Mask

My Beauty Diary Cooling Mask

This is one of the mask from My Beauty Diary that i think it's suitable for every skin types.  Even though it does not say it on the packaging, i think this is basically a hydration mask with cooling effects.  This mask is very good if you live in high temperature places or if it's summer and you need something to cool you down.

Overall Review: 3.5/5, not a bad mask but I don't need a cooling mask, I'm more of a hydration or whitening mask junky.

PureSa Q10 Narto Mask Sheet

PureSa Q10 Narto Mask Sheet

This is a Japanese mask sheet, it comes in a pack of 5, about $12 Canadian from my local T&T Asian market.  There's many other types of mask from the same brand, whitening, hydration, etc. But I wanted to try this one because I have not ever tried narto masks before and I heard alot of good things about it.

After trying it, I think this mask is more suitable for mature skin.  The Q10 or narto ingredient is definitely makes the mask essence more thicker than the other masks that I have tried.  I know it's thick because after taking off the mask after 20 to 30 mins there's a thick film on my face, even with facial massage hoping to massage the essence into my skin, it just doesn't absorb.

I imagine this mask to be very suitable for dry skin or skin that really need nourishing.  I wouldn't say it's hydrating because I don't it's the same effect because hydration mask can be absorbed into the skin for all skin types, but this is not the same.

Overall Review: 2.5/5.  Not something I would repurchase any time soon, maybe when I'm in my 30s or 40s.  It's not suitable for my current skin type, which is combination.
